چکیده

Semiconducting polymer heterostructures with strong two-dimensional quantum confinement of excitons are prepared by self-assembly of two conjugated polymers in binary blends. Exciton confinement effects in the semiconducting polymer quantum wires were observed at room temperature by photoluminescence excitation and photoluminescence spectroscopies and by electric field-induced photoluminescence quenching. Observation of new exciton states, enhanced luminescence, and stability of luminescence at high electric fields ~3310 V/cm! confirmed the one-dimensionality of the excitons in the organic quantum wires. © 1997 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~97!02304-8#

Highly luminescent, fluorinated semiconducting polymer dots for cellular imaging and analysis.

A highly fluorescent fluorinated semiconducting polymer dot (Pdot) with a quantum yield of up to 49% was developed. The fluorinated Pdot was eight times brighter in cell-labeling applications than its non-fluorinated counterpart, and was rod shaped rather than spherical.

Majorana zero modes in one-dimensional quantum wires without long-ranged superconducting order

We show that long-ranged superconducting order is not necessary to guarantee the existence of Majorana fermion zero modes at the ends of a quantum wire. We formulate a concrete model, which applies, for instance, to a semiconducting quantum wire with strong spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman splitting coupled to a wire with algebraically decaying superconducting fluctuations. We solve this model by...

Fabrication of bright and small size semiconducting polymer nanoparticles for cellular labelling and single particle tracking.

In this work, we demonstrate a convenient and robust strategy for efficient fabrication of high fluorescence quantum yield (QY, 49.8 ± 3%) semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs), with size comparable with semiconductor quantum dots (Qdots). The SPNs were synthesized by co-precipitation of hydrophobic semiconducting polymer together with amphiphilic multidentate polymer. Comprehensive spect...

Avalanche-induced current enhancement in semiconducting carbon nanotubes.

Semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes under high electric field stress ( approximately 10 V/mum) display a remarkable current increase due to avalanche generation of free electrons and holes. Unlike other materials, the avalanche process in such 1D quantum wires involves access to the third subband and is insensitive to temperature but strongly dependent on diameter approximately exp(-1/d...

Conductance in quantum wires by three quantum dots arrays

A noninteracting quantum-dot arrays side coupled to a quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. The conductance at zero temperature develops an oscillating band with resonances and antiresonances due to constructive and destructive interference in the ballistic channel, respectively. Moreover, we have fo...
